How to Add or Update Content on Your WordPress Website?

For adding or updating content on a WordPress site, you need to have Administrator, Author, Editor, or Contributor privileges.

Content can be added in 2 formats: as a Page or as a Post.

  • A page is for content that is not time-dependent. For example: ‘About’ or ‘Contact’ pages
  • A post, on the other hand, is for content that is time-relevant & is displayed in reverse-chronological order. Posts can have comments & an associated RSS feed.

How to edit a post?

  • Log into your WordPress site
  • Click on Post > All Posts
  • Find the Post you want to edit
  • Then either click on the title or ‘Edit’ (which appears when the title is hovered over with a mouse)
  • Make the necessary changes

Then either:

  • click ‘Save Draft’ if you want to work on the post more later
  • if you want to publish the post and you want it to be posted to your site immediately, click ‘Publish’
  • if you are ready to publish the post, but want your post to go ‘live’ later, click ‘Edit’ next to ‘Publish immediately’ & then select when you want the post to go live

  • Log into your WordPress website
  • Click on Post > All Pages
  • Select the Page you want to edit & then either click on the title or ‘Edit’ (which appears when the title is hovered over with a mouse)
  • Make the necessary changes

Then either:

  • click ‘Save Draft’ if you want to work on the page more later or
  • click ‘Publish’, if you are ready to publish the page and you want it to be posted to your website immediately or
  • if you are ready to publish the page, but want it to go ‘live’ later, click ‘Edit’ next to ‘Publish immediately’ & then select when you want the post to go live

How to add content via a new Post?

  • Log into your WordPress site
  • Click on Post > Add New
  • Add in your new content, & write a title
  • If applicable, select appropriate Categories for the post in the Categories section (right column)

Then either:

  • click ‘Save Draft’ if you want to work on the post more later or
  • click ‘Publish’ , if you want to publish the post & you want it to be posted to your site immediately or
  • if want to publish the post, but want the post to go ‘live’ later, click ‘Edit’ next to ‘Publish immediately’ & then select when you would like the post to go live

NOTE: While adding or editing content, if you press ‘Return’, you will start a new paragraph & when you press ‘Shift + Return’, you will start on the next line.
